For example; back in 1971 sports brand Nike’s logo was the swoosh tick with the word Nike across it. As the years went on and people started to recognise the logo and associate it with the brand, so the logo changed. 

By 1985 the Nike logo had a new font, different layout and a square design. In the present age, Nike is so well known that they don’t even have their brand name on the logo anymore. People don’t even have to think twice about what brand it is.

First impressions are everything and it only takes consumers a few seconds to recognise a brand from the logo. In order to create a powerful and memorable logo, you need to make sure it is something that is going to catch people’s attention. 

When it comes to choosing colours for your logo and brand, be aware that colour conveys emotions and messages. So be sure to know why you are picking the colours you do.  

To give you an example, the colour red is youthful and bold, green is growth and health, purple is imaginative and wise. If you’re in the IT industry blue is a great colour – like Dell – as blue is dependable, strong and trustworthy. This is exactly how you need your customers to see you. 

If you are dependable, then consumers will trust that your brand always provides the highest quality product in a timely manner. 

Types Of Logo

There are two types of logos – logotype and logomark. 

A logotype design contains text or a company name written in a bespoke font. Google, Coca Cola and Skype are just a few examples of a logotype. 

A logomark is a graphic or symbol used to identify the brand without any company name. Examples of these include apple, shell and WWF. 

Some companies like to mix the two types together and incorporate the brand name with a graphic or symbol.
