Easy Guide to Basic Online Marketing

by | Jul 8, 2016 | Unassigned

Online Marketing is everywhere. It’s the new form of advertising that is adapted to the modern-day market. However, you should always be aware that it takes time to see results – so expect to wait three to six months before you see a true build up of interest. It may be a slow-burner, but it definitely pays off over time so be patient. Here are some terms commonly used in internet marketing

you should be aware of:

SEO: This is an acronym for Search Engine Optimisation. SEO allows your website to rank higher up on search engines such as Google and Bing so as to find more traffic.
PPC: Standing for Pay-per-Click, PPC uses online ad companies to purchase advertisement and charges on a per-click basis. The amount charged is dependent on keywords, bid and the current market.

SMM: Social Media Marketing. This uses social media platforms to market your website and brand.

URL: The “address” where your site can be found on the internet. This is what you type into the address bar whilst on the internet.

Inbound: A marketing method that attracts traffic, also known as “permission marketing”. This approach is much more gentle than Outbound, as the user is able to decide for themselves how much marketing they engage with. Inbound Marketing includes tactics such as SEO, Blogging, Social Media Management and much more.

Outbound: This marketing method “interrupts” its audience – whether they want it to or not. Examples include TV & radio ads, billboards and other traditional marketing techniques.

Growth Driven Design: Unlike traditional website design, which is a one-time commitment, growth driven design is a continual process that focuses on adjustings your site based on the interactions of real users. The end result is a high-quality, optimised website for your users.

UX: This stands for User Experience. You should always take into account user experience with everything you do online. A user who has a positive experience is much more likely to buy from your business.

CRO: Conversion Rate Optimisation. This focuses on increasing the percentage of visitors who come to your site and are then converted into leads.

Backlinks: These are links from other websites to your website. This is vital for SEO! But be aware that it is about quality rather than quantity, the types of links are more important than the number of links.
