The Q&A With… Mark Tuxford!

‘The Q&A With…’ we chat with UWD team members talking about their job roles within the company and what they get up to outside of work. First up, Online Marketing Manager, Mark Tuxford.

Born and bred in Colchester, local lad Mark is a trained Journalist, where his work has been published by many well known, big name organisations such as BBC Sport, talkSPORT, Twitter, 442 Magazine and tabloid newspapers throughout his career to date. As well as his role at UWD, Mark reports on football league and non-league matches on a regular basis for The Essex Daily Gazette, where his match articles feature in the back pages of the local newspaper he has covered his beloved Ipswich Town, Colchester United, Witham Town, Stanway Rovers, Wivenhoe Town and FC Clacton to name a few.

As you can probably tell, Mark is huge fan of football – especially Ipswich Town – where he has regularly attended Saturday matches at Portman Road for many years. Mark also enjoys socialising with friends and is a keen karaoke singer and pool player.

Mark has now been a part of the team at UWD for over a year, where he manages client accounts. He does this by producing expertly written Blog, Emails, Social Media and Website Content, as well as managing client expectations.

Mark’s passion for writing and overall experience make him a perfect fit to handle all types of business content needed for new and existing clients. Mark is also a keen salesman who enjoys welcoming new customers to UWD with his expert services.

The former Philip Morant student’s close knit bond with fellow marketers Georgia Cocks and Sofie Samuelsson, ensure clients get the all hands to the pump approach with their marketing campaigns through a variety of different avenues. The team regularly discuss strategies and implement new ideas, generating the best results for businesses online – you won’t go wrong with the passion, drive and expertise our marketing team possesses!

We’re all about the personal touch within our company, and with this in mind a Q&A is a great way to get to know our team on a business and personal level. So, without further or do, let’s get the questions firing and answering for Mark!

What attracted you to the role at UWD?
“From the outset I was looking to get my teeth stuck in to marketing and test my writing capabilities for a diverse range of clients, I enjoy meeting new people and helping businesses reach their potential online, this was certainly something I thought i’d enjoy and succeed in – which has proven to be the case.”

What’s been the best part about your time at UWD so far?
“I’ve learnt a lot in a short space of time at UWD, from marketing to sales activities so i’d like to think I have added a few strings to my bow.”   

What is your normal working day like at UWD?
“I’m responsible for professional written content across a wide range of platforms, from Websites, Social Media, Blogs and Email marketing. While it’s incredibly busy, no day is the same and that’s what keeps the role fresh and exciting. I also have the afternoon where I offer our digital services to a wide range of potential clients, bringing new business into UWD.”

How are you enjoying writing content?
“I have a passion for writing, everyone is good at something in my eyes, and I guess mine would be writing – especially about football and passionate businesses!”

What do you do in your spare time to unwind from a busy week at work?
“If i’m not at Portman Road watching Ipswich, you’ll find me in the pub watching a game – it’s like a religion! I also write in my spare time for a local newspaper, so I never really stop!”

What is the best marketing campaign you have worked on to date?
“I’d have to say working with FootieWithDad is my most favourite, I instantly struck up a fantastic working relationship with Julian (the founder), the story behind the venture is touching and inspiring to many people of all ages. We were able to help FWD gain traction and interview famous faces, while raising money and putting smiles on children’s faces who are less fortunate – please go check it out!”

What advice would you have for those looking to join UWD?
“Be prepared to work hard and generate the best results for the team and your clients! UWD is a driven company that wants to reach the top and it requires all staff to have the same ethos, it’s a great company to get your dream of doing what you love off to a perfect start!”

What is your favourite food?
“Pie and Mash is my ultimate favourite, closely followed by anything Italian!”

What is your favourite Film/TV Programme?
“Although it’s not on anymore, my favourite programme would have to be Only Fools & Horses, I actually work with a client who runs the fan page which is an absolute dream to write for! Other than that, EastEnders and Peaky Blinders are programmes I never miss an episode of! My favourite film is The Business.”

What is your favourite song?
“Tears For Fears – Everybody Wants to Rule the World”

Top FIVE celebrities you would have round for a dinner party? (Dead or alive)
1. Sir David Jason – Del Boy is my idol. I grew up wanting to be him even though he’s incredibly unsuccessful!
2. Nicholas Lyndhurst – you can’t have Del, with out Rodney!
3. John Sullivan – I would have loved to pick his brains on how he created Only Fools & Horses, he sadly passed away some years ago.
4. David Beckham – My football hero growing up, to meet him would be out of this world!
5. Sir Bobby Robson – it was incredibly sad when he passed, one of England and Ipswich’s finest managers to date – legend!

“Getting out of bed every morning – carpe diem!”

“I like to think I’m a good singer, I’m also fairly good at attempting accents from around the world!”
